Halloween is being celebrated in Apex Legends through the Doppleganger event, bringing features players love—but there’s one they want to see leave soon despite their love.
The limited-time mode brought by the event, named Tricks n’ Treats Trios, features a few fun adjustments from the normal mode.
They include Copycat boxes that allow characters to pick up the ability of another Legend in a new slot. They can be used like any other ability, bringing an element of surprise to the games.
In a Reddit thread from Oct. 23, players argued that even though this feature is fun in the limited-time mode (LTM), they wouldn’t want something akin to this coming permanently to the game.
“I believe perks have no place in Pubs or Ranked and the new event proves it,” wrote the thread’s author. “Simply put, perks create unpredictability. … [Copycat] is an extreme example, perks would be less impactful. But it shows you the problem.”
Legend perks are a feature that joined the mobile version of the game, and were reportedly in talks for the PC and console version in September, which sparked much debate on whether it would be welcome in Apex competitive play or not.
Those perks give players one more way to customize their ability kit with personal attributes.
For example, players can get bonuses when doing a Finisher on a defeated enemy, or modify a legend’s passive or abilities. It introduces more space for surprise in the game, but it’s not to everyone’s taste.
“It’s good as an LTM. Maybe mix tape. Would not be fun as a new core aspect of the game,” wrote the top-voted comment.
Generally, players in the thread agreed the Copycat feature, similarly to perks, was welcomed for fun events, but they wouldn’t want to see them stay in the game—only in limited-time modes.
In any case, the developer has yet to mention whether or not perks will make their way to the PC and console versions of the game.
