Here are the Dota 2 Patch 7.34c notes: Gyrocopter, Earthshaker cop heavy nerfs as TI 12 approaches

One of the last patches before TI 12.

In a surprise weekend update, Valve shipped Dota 2 Patch 7.34c on Sept. 9, which features an abundance of hero changes, item updates, and various bug fixes.

As this year’s edition of The International approaches, we are starting to see the meta relax after 7.34 brought huge changes to the game. While this shouldn’t be the final update before TI 12, with so few events left ahead of its homecoming to Seattle, U.S., we can expect pros to really settle into these changes before making the pilgrimage to the Climate Pledge Arena.

What’s in Dota 2 Patch 7.34c?

Emerging heroes from 7.34 brought back in line

In the leadup to TI, we often staples to the pro scene start to pop up. No one emerges from the woodwork quite like Earthshaker who, after recording a sub-par win rate in 7.33, stormed to well above parity and into the top five most-picked heroes according to stats site Dotabuff.

Interestingly, this came off the back of huge buffs in 7.34b, which saw the support flex into the midlane. The strength of Enchant Totem, combined with the level 15 Talent which boosts its damage, meant ‘Shaker could rumble with the best of them. Now, with that Talent pushed back to level 20, it’s likely over for this hero’s midlane stint. The hit to his damage bonus Talent at 10, as well as a mana cost increase to use the ability, really hits Earthshaker’s damage and laning phase. We expect him to hang around as a support though, ever-present in the pro meta before TI.

Also copping nerfs is Gyrocopter. Buffs in 7.34 to Flak Cannon, plus a steady build-up of boosts to this once-weak carry has seen him zoom to a ridiculous 53.21 percent win rate and was the second-most picked hero throughout the TI 12 last-chance qualifiers according to Spectral.

Valve has opted to put a halt to Gyro’s rise, heavily nerfing his Flak Cannon. Formerly at 18 seconds, the cooldown of Gyro’s E is now 26 seconds at level one, and is still two seconds longer at max level. The talents for the same ability have been swapped too, with the bonus attacks now pushed back to later in the game, and the damage bonus (which can be picked at level 15) has been nearly halved. Gyro fans hoping to see the hero present at TI might have cause for concern now.

Nature’s Prophet (a huge nerf to base Agility and Sprout trees now providing healing) and Earth Spirit (Intelligence nerfs and Rolling Boulder adjustments) also didn’t survive Valve’s gaze. Both have been present in victorious teams at Immortal and Divine ranks, with Prophet arguably the hero to pick for 7.34.

We’ll see if these nerfs are enough to hit the meta.

Omniknight, Clinkz, and Nyx Assassin mains—rejoice

Where there are nerfs, there must be buffs—and Valve has been plenty generous this time around.

Omniknight has seen a much-needed boost to his Repel, which only returned recently with 7.34b but was a shadow of its former self. Now with a much shorter cooldown, plus a little easier on the mana cost, we’ll be seeing more of Purist Thunderwrath (and probably a few less Black King Bars).

Clinkz has slowly been on the rise after a dismal 7.33 period as players adjusted to changes to his kit. 7.34c sees a huge damage boost for the Skeleton Warrior and his pals, with attack speed and Burning Barrage damage boosts helping both Clinkz and his archer army.

Dazzle (removal of Bad Juju’s increased health cost after level one) and Nyx Assassin also saw the best of the buffs. Nyx in particular will be one to watch: Mind Flare now does significantly more damage to Intelligence-based heroes at earlier levels, and Vendetta will be easier to land and faster to output, meaning a quicker Impale follow-up.
