Season six of Modern Warfare 2, Warzone 2, and DMZ has arrived at last. Players have already begun diving into The Haunting update, earning XP to unlock new items in this season’s battle pass and exploring the new map Las Almas, as well as the revamped Call of Duty 2 map Toujane—now named Koro Village.
But you’ll probably notice you won’t be able to queue up for ranked just yet. Don’t worry, it’s not just you.
Ranked play won’t be enabled immediately following the season six update, so players looking to rank up and climb the ladder immediately will be unable to do so.
Each season in MW2, ranked play receives a soft reset to allow players to climb again. Players will be able to rank up once more since their ranks will be set back a little bit to encourage grinding again.
According to Treyarch, Bronze through to Crimson-ranked players will be set three tiers below where they finished in season five, while those Crimson Two and above will begin season six at Diamond One. As well as this, as part of Treyarch’s End of Season Skill Setback, players will be protected from demotion for their first three Ranked Play games of the season. Because of this reset, ranked must go down for a short time.

When will ranked play be back in MW2 season six?
On Oct. 4, Warzone ranked grinders looking to play were met with error codes. This is because the mode is “temporarily offline” while undergoing maintenance, but it will be back soon.
It was over a day later before Warzone ranked play was re-enabled on Oct. 5.
Additionally, Ranked play was down at the start of season six simply because it wasn’t re-enabled yet. This is nothing new as something similar has happened in each of the past couple of seasons in MW2.
For example, in season three shortly after the season went live, Treyarch revealed the launch to season three of ranked play was temporarily delayed due to “an issue with the season two-three transition.” This time, it’s by design.
“Both Ranked Play modes will be offline on Wednesday [Sept. 27] from 12am PT until later in the morning after Season 06 has officially started,” Treyarch said. Historically, this outage normally lasts a few hours, so those eager to get into ranked will need to be patient and wait for Treyarch to ensure season six’s launch is running smoothly and server stability is established.
If the past few seasons are anything to go by, the ranked play playlist should be available soon.
Ranked play was live soon after the season began, so players only need to wait before they begin the grind to Iridescent once more. For now, CoD players will have to delve into another mode while ranked play is on a short hiatus.
It’s the best time to give the new playlists and maps another go until ranked play returns. It likely won’t be down long, but issues could extend the maintenance window at any given time.
