There’s a 2-hour break between Overwatch’s competitive seasons this time around

Talk about a short offseason.
This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Overwatch’s 13th competitive season is ending on Dec. 31, but season 14 will start up only two hours later. Typically, Blizzard gives players a few days off between seasons—a way for competitive seasons to feel distinct from each other.

Season 13 will end on Dec. 31 at 4pm CT. Two hours later, on Dec. 31 at 6pm CT, Overwatch’s 14th competitive season will begin. Blizzard did not outline reasons for the competitive season offseason change, which makes it the shortest Competitive Play offseason in Overwatch’s history.

Overall, Overwatch’s competitive mode remains largely unchanged, despite the shortened offseason. As with all of Overwatch’s competitive seasons, players will be awarded for completing their placement matches. A special spray and an icon are given to all players that got ranked, while top 500 players on their platform and region will get an extra icon and animated spray. Likewise, competitive points will be handed out, too. Here’s the breakdown:

  • SR 1-1499 (Bronze): 65 CP
  • SR 1500-1999 (Silver): 125 CP
  • SR 2000-2499 (Gold): 250 CP
  • SR 2500-2999 (Platinum): 500 CP
  • SR 3000-3499 (Diamond): 750 CP
  • SR 3500-3999 (Master): 1,200 CP
  • SR 4000-5000 (Grandmaster): 1,750 CP

Competitive points only have one purpose right now—golden weapons. Each time a player amasses 3,000 competitive points, they’re able to unlock a single golden weapon for a hero of their choosing.
