OpTic Gaming are the final Call of Duty World League Pro League Challenge champions for WWII after their three-game victory over Lightning Pandas tonight.
Going through compLexity and defending champions Ghost Gaming in fairly-convincing fashion to reach the finals, OpTic certainly looked like the team to beat heading into their showdown with Canada’s best squad, Lightning Pandas.
Although Lightning Pandas did notch wins over CWL Pro League teams Tainted Minds and Luminosity in the round of 16 and semifinals, respectively, neither of those teams have looked great recently. On top of that, OpTic have proved in the past that they’re a force no matter if the event is online or offline.
In the finals, OpTic proved they were the superior team. Although Lightning Pandas earned almost 200 points on Gibraltar Hardpoint, OpTic closed out the first map with a 57-point victory.
The next map wasn’t nearly as close, with OpTic’s Ian “Crimsix” Porter playing almost flawlessly on London Docks Search and Destroy. His teammates followed his lead, and they quickly wrapped up the game with a 6-1 win.
OpTic’s most popular player, Seth “Scump” Abner, took the spotlight on Ardennes Forest Capture the Flag. His slaying ability led the lobby and helped OpTic clinch a sweeping victory to earn the team a collective $1,500.
While the money is certainly nice, the momentum boost this tournament may give OpTic is needed much more. The Green Wall enter the last week of Stage Two in the CWL Pro League tied for first in Division B. But just two losses could land them in fourth place and a winless week might even knock them out of the playoffs.
OpTic will have their chance to take the outright top spot in Division B tomorrow, July 17, when they face off against Rise Nation.
