Do you have to download Warzone 2?

Clear some room for the new Warzone title.

Now that Warzone 2 has officially released alongside season one of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, a new question has arisen: Do players have to actually download Warzone 2 to play it?

Leakers for the game claimed that Warzone 2 would take up twice as much space as its counterpart MW2 and may require some players to uninstall other games to accommodate for it. The game was initially expected to require a little over 115 GB to download, according to Warzone 2 Informer on Twitter. This is much bigger than MW2, which took roughly 55 GB to download on platforms like Xbox and PC.

For players who purchased MW2 on consoles such as Xbox and PlayStation, Warzone 2 should already be included with the game. This came with the large download size for MW2 when it came out last month, meaning the bulk of Warzone has already been taken care of. For players on PC, an additional update with roughly 40 GB of data will have to be downloaded before playing Warzone. An additional update with all the added content that came with season one has been pushed out to all players on console as well and may require an additional download but it should be nowhere near the previously rumored 115 GB download.

Warzone has traditionally been a large game to download, but this is one of the largest downloads for Warzone since it first came out in 2019. This large download size may be due to Infinity Ward adding DMZ to Warzone 2, an added survival experience like Escape from Tarkov.

Since Warzone 2 will be free to play, players will have to go to whatever platform they want to play from to look for the download link. Check the PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and Battle.Net storefronts to see additional information about downloading the game for those platforms.
