The Lich King has always been one of the most iconic characters in the Warcraft universe. Arthas Menethil is one of the most iconic characters from Warcraft 3 and World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King; and now it is time for the death knights to make their mark in Hearthstone. The latest expansion Knights of the Frozen Throne is Hearthstone’s next expansion with 135 new cards incoming next month. So, what’s new this expansion and what can we expect?
Death Knight Heroes
Hearthstone’s team has taken a lot of liberties in the past with regards to the lore to give the game its own identity. From making Ragnaros into a lord of light to taking a look at Karazhan through a different lens, it’s time for things to take a darker turn – what if all of the nine heroes died and were raised as death knights? We will be getting access to death knight versions of all nine heroes in the game and we’ve only seen the Hunter one so far.
More Deathrattles!
With undead beings, ghouls and zombies being part of the Lich King’s army, we are going to get a lot of Deathrattle themed cards this expansion. We have had access to some really powerful deathrattles in the past during the Naxxramas and GvG meta, and the subsequent expansions did not have much to offer on that front. The new expansion seems really promising if Deathrattle decks are your thing.
Lifesteal
Lifesteal is a new keyword that is getting added to the game. Minions and spells with the Lifesteal keyword allow you to get back the health you deal as damage to your hero. Depending on how good the Lifesteal cards are, we can expect slower decks to have some form of sustenance against aggro decks.
Icecrown Citadel PVE Content
Do you miss adventures? Blizzard is bringing back our much loved PVE levels back into the game with the expansion. There will be eight levels in total that everyone gets access to. The single player content will award you with 3 packs upon completion (from the new set) and a random legendary hero card from the nine classes.
If you pre-purchase the expansion from the Blizzard shop of client you will get 50 packs for 49.99$ and a special pre-order exclusive card back. With the changes to pack openings going live soon (expected to happen during the expansion launch patch), you will get a legendary in your first ten packs and you will not get access to duplicate legendaries for any set whatsoever. We will update you as soon as more cards are announced for the set 24th July onward. Until then…Frostmourne hungers!
