Hi-Rez gets charitable with its Smite Spring Final

In ancient mythology, some gods stood for destruction, while some stood for benevolence

In ancient mythology, some gods stood for destruction, while some stood for benevolence. Hi-Rez Studios, makers of the myth-themed MOBA Smite, is embracing both in its Spring Final event.

Smite’s weekend Spring championship is kicking off with a charity throw-down before the real action starts on Saturday. Donations to the American Cancer Society allow fans to call the shots in an exhibition match between prominent pros, with stretch goals unlocking gem giveaways, god skin reveals, and a map update reveal if donations reach $20,000.

The event, which began yesterday, features Spring Final qualifiers Fnatic, Trig Esports, Team Solomid, and AFK Gaming in a three-on-three contest for the enjoyment of all. Additional in-person events, including Smite Family Feud, Hi-Rez versus professional players, and a dunk tank are giving the April championship a true carnival feel. That’s only emphasized by the company’s promotional video:

By marrying charity and championships, Smite is embracing the community good-will that saw its World Championship achieve status as one of the highest paying esports tournaments of all time.
