Riot revealed favorite League game modes by region—NA really, really likes Nexus Blitz

Riot Games lead designer Andrei “Meddler” van Roon checks in from time to time on the official League of Legends forums to explain upcoming updates and balance changes to the community. Now and again, though, he shares some interesting stats or information that are just fun to know.

Yesterday, he shared a graph displaying which regions play which game modes, including North America, Korea, and Brazil. The results are exactly what you’d expect.

First and foremost, Korea loves its solo queue. There’s definitely a chance that has something to do with why there are so many elite Korean players when compared to any other region, but who cares about that stat. The real game mode, the only one that matters, is Nexus Blitz. Right? Obviously.

So divert your eyes to the bottom of the graph and take a peak at the real, actual, Riot-sanctioned statistical evidence that North America truly is the best region—we play more Nexus Blitz than anyone else. Something something “for fun region.” 

Now that the obvious jokes are out of the way, there are some other interesting tidbits here. For example, the fact that Korea plays ranked solo queue more than any other region on the list, yet they avoid normal draft on Summoner’s Rift like the plague could be indicative of the region’s competitiveness in League as well. Likewise, North America plays a good chunk of SR normals, but there aren’t many that play ranked flex queue.

Also, as it stands, North America is seemingly the only region that touches the Twisted Treeline, mostly in normal queues. Even then, though, the ol’ three-on-three map’s popularity seems to have dwindled to an all-time low. It’s the least popular map and game mode on the graph, even far below custom games and bot matches. We wouldn’t be terribly surprised if Twisted Treeline’s future in League was waning.
