With just days left before Destiny 2: The Witch Queen launches, Bungie’s social channels began teasing a new character named Immaru.
Immaru was introduced to the world via an Instagram post by the official Destiny account. The voice, a new one to the series, is broadcasting some sort of communications, and using context clues and Destiny knowledge, some information was gleaned.
“Attention all Lucent Hive, Immaru here with your marching orders,” the video says. “Got a high priority messenger passing through our territory, keep those gun-toting wagamaggots off her.”
This type of communication will sound immediately familiar to longtime Destiny players since it’s quite similar to the sound bytes that play whenever players pick up a Patrol beacon in various locations in the game. But this time, it sounds like the script has been flipped and the Hive are running patrols against the Guardians.
Several Instagram posts later before the expansion arrived, Immaru was revealed to be Savathûn’s Ghost during the events of The Witch Queen. He can be heard whenever players pick up Patrol beacons in Savathûn’s Throne World in-game, and at certain points during the campaign.
At the end of the campaign, with Savathûn defeated, Immaru disappeared from the Throne World along with the Traveler, which Savathûn was trying to steal. This left both his and Savathûn’s fate up in the air for the time being.
With Immaru still active, he can still revive Savathûn if he is able to get to her at some point. That leaves the door open for Bungie to bring The Witch Queen back to life at any point over the next few years.
But for now, the Vanguard is in possession of Savathûn’s corpse, so Immaru cannot revive her just yet. But odds are, the Hive Ghost is waiting, planning, and biding time until the Witch Queen can be resurrected for further plot developments.
