Secrets hidden in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 announcement trailer, according to executive director

“The flute is actually one of the key themes in this game.”

Tetsuya Takahashi, the executive director of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, said in an official Nintendo blog post that the reveal trailer in yesterday’s Nintendo Direct has a variety of elements and themes hidden in it.

Takahashi also said more details will be revealed in the near future before the game’s release. Takahashi did address the music playing in the background of the trailer, though. “The music in this game maintains the unique Xenoblade Chronicles touch while also taking on a new challenge, namely that of integrating a flute-based melody as its motif,” Takahashi said. “The flute is actually one of the key themes in this game.”

It’s possible to see different characters playing the flute multiple times in the trailer, possibly leading to one of the biggest hints Takahashi mentioned. As noted by Takahashi, the music for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was composed by Yasunori Mitsuda, Manami Kiyota, ACE (TOMOri Kudo, CHiCO), Kenji Hiramatsu, and Mariam Abounnasr, the same musicians who’ve contributed to the series in the past.

Other professionals from past games that are included in the development of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 are Masatsugu Saito, who also designed the characters for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Koichi Mugitani, who made key artwork. Key art in the final scene of the trailer showing a broken great sword of Mechonis and the body of the Urayan Titan with a gaping wound also hint at something not yet revealed. The concept of such art was from “sometime between the end of development of Xenoblade Chronicles and the beginning of development of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. So, it’s not something we recently added to the series,” Takahashi said.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is set to be released in September 2022 for the Nintendo Switch. You can visit the official Xenoblade Chronicles 3 site for more information.
