Popular Overwatch community moderator “Uncleswagg” has been accused of hoarding and distributing nude photographs of multiple Twitch streamers without consent.
The allegations against Uncleswagg come after the former Overwatch League moderator was removed from that position without warning. Twitch streamer and web developer Cher Scarlett accused Uncleswagg of repeatedly uploading her photographs to multiple Imgur albums.
“The worst part of it was that Uncleswagg was proud of it,” Cher wrote on Medium. “No number of emails to Twitch and Imgur staff seemed to result in the deletion of the albums, and he prided himself on his ability to keep the links permanent. He gained the notoriety he so desperately wanted by harassing women with revenge porn, and being the central hub for ‘exposing’ the women of the gaming industry with illegal nudes.”
Uncleswagg reportedly had “dozens” of albums of Twitch streamers’ leaked nude photographs. It was “the most complete collection in all of the Twitch community,” Cher wrote. “When he received the small collection of my photographs from a source, he learned there was someone I had been involved with in the past who may have more and contacted him to get more photos for his album.”
Cher and other Twitch streamers found out about the collection in 2012, but Cher said that the photos of her were re-uploaded to Imgur as recently as August 2017. There is no username attached to the account that uploaded them, however.
Uncleswagg posted a response on TwitLonger this morning, issuing an apology to those who he “hurt and disappointed.” He did not deny the allegations made against him.
“I’ve done a lot of good and I’ve done a lot of bad,” Uncleswagg wrote. “The good doesn’t excuse the bad, but that evil person isn’t who I am today.”
Cher responded on Twitter: “No one knows better than you, Uncleswagg, how many women you have hurt with the albums you created, and from the private messages I’ve received, have hurt in other ways,” she wrote. “While I appreciate you not denying it like you did in your Discord server, this isn’t even close to enough.”
Uncleswagg accused Blizzard earlier this month of removing him as an Overwatch League moderator without warning. He was a part of a “community-driven moderation team,” according to Blizzard.
Although Uncleswagg has been removed from the official Overwatch Twitch channels, he remains a moderator for some of the biggest Overwatch streams, including those of Dallas Fuel players Brandon “Seagull” Larned, Félix “xQc” Lengyel, and Los Angeles Gladiator’s Lane “Surefour” Roberts.
Update, March 8 at 8:34pm CT: Blizzard has clarified Uncleswagg’s position on the Overwatch League moderation team in a statement to Dot Esports. “Uncleswagg has never been an employee at Blizzard,” Blizzard said. “He was part of a community-driven moderation team, which is currently being dissolved in favor of an in-house team. Overwatch is committed to building a community that is welcoming and inclusive for all players and fans. Harassment is something that Blizzard, the Overwatch League, and the Overwatch team takes very seriously, and we will not hesitate to remove these players from our community.”
