The analytics company expects the acquisition to help Nielsen “offer unrivaled expertise” on the industry. Nielsen Games and Nielsen Esports offer publishers, developers, console manufacturers, media platforms, esports brands, and industry stakeholders data from consumer research, game tracking, and sponsorship valuation. Consulting services are also available.

“We recognize the growing importance of the digital gaming ecosystem, and the combined strength and expertise of our businesses will deliver best-in-class solutions and services to games and esports clients around the world,” Nielsen Sports global president of games and esports Chris Morley said in a statement.

With a headquarters in New York and clients around the world, SuperData will continue its work as SuperData, a Nielsen company, a representative noted in the press release.

“Gamers are the trailblazers for media consumption and have become more important than ever to the global entertainment landscape,” SuperData co-founder and COO Janelle Benjamin said. “SuperData and Nielsen’s combined capabilities will allow us to provide gold standard insights that are essential to the growth of the industry.”

In April 2017, Nielsen entered a partnership with Activision Blizzard to value its esports ventures. SuperData is no stranger to Activision Blizzard titles; in August, the company reported that online card games like Hearthstone will bring in $1.5 billion in 2018, up $100,000 from last year.
