Team Kaliber barely survive day one of 2018 CWL Championship

They just got away with this one.

The first day of the 2018 Call of Duty World League Championship is in the books—and it was eventful.

After losing to Lightning Pandas to kick off the event, Team Kaliber was on the brink of elimination. The CWL Pro League Stage Two champions faced an extremely early exit going into their second match of the day against Heretics, a team that would move on to the bracket stage with the win.

The teams fought back and forth in the five-game series, with Heretics pushing tK to their limit. Fortunately for Team Kaliber’s fans, the top seed in the tournament prevailed in the fifth game to keep their bracket play hopes alive.

A win against Heretics does not guarantee tK will move past pool play, however. Tomorrow’s matchup against Epsilon, who lost to both Lightning Pandas and Heretics, will decide a lot regarding Pool A.

With the numerous other matches on day one, some pools were decided. Rise Nation and Lethal Gaming officially secured top spots in Pool B, while Red Reserve and Team Sween—who upset eUnited—went 2-0 in Pool C and Pool D, respectively, to punch their tickets in the championship bracket.

Pool E, F, G, and H had fairly quiet days due to the teams only playing one match each. That will likely change tomorrow, though, when every group determines its top two teams.

The action resumes at 11am CT tomorrow and the day will begin with two CWL Pro League teams colliding. UNILAD vs. Team Envy will kick off the day that will decide the top 16 teams in the world.
