London’s Wembley Arena to host ‘League of Legends’ matches

The League of Legends Championship Series is one of the largest esports leagues in the world

The League of Legends Championship Series is one of the largest esports leagues in the world. But with 11 straight weeks of competition, sometimes things can get a little stale. In order to shake things up, the league’s organizers, Riot Games try to travel every so often to different countries, such as their trip to Paris for All-Stars last month. And today, they announced their next destination.

The United Kingdom has a relatively small, but devoted, esports following. Their biggest tournaments include Multiplay’s Insomnia Gaming Festivals, whose upcoming “i52” event is featuring nine different tournaments with a wide variety of games.

Riot Games looks to add themselves to the country’s rich gaming background. This June, during the fifth week of the European LCS, players and casters will be traveling to London’s Wembley Arena. The arena, which has over 12,000 seats, is located right next to the famed Wembley Stadium, home to the English national football team.

Wembley Arena is also the second-largest indoor arena in the country.

It’s unusual for fans outside of Cologne, Germany or Los Angeles, Calif., where its broadcast studios are based. Local Riot staff in England can’t quite contain themselves.
