Korean League of Legends team Samsung Galaxy put together an unprecedented record of success in 2014 that was split between their two teams: Samsung Galaxy Blue and Samsung Galaxy White.
Now both are completely dismantled.
Samsung will not return a single player from either lineup heading into 2015, according to a report on Korean news site Inven.
Samsung Galaxy White won the Riot World Championships on Oct. 19. Then, the feeding frenzy began.
The players on White and Blue, who lost in the semifinals to White but dominated Korea’s local leagues for most of the year, found themselves receiving lucrative offers from teams around the globe, including huge deals from Chinese teams. Blue’s superstar mid laner Bae “dade” Eo-jin looked to move to China for a deal worth six figures. White’s Heo “PawN” Won-seok and Choi “DanDy” In-kyu received huge deals from Invictus Gaming. Worlds MVP Cho “Mata” Se-hyeong left the team, considering a move to the Western scene.
It looked like Samsung Galaxy might be able to rebuild around White top laner Jang “Looper” Hyeong-seok, who had a breakout Worlds tournament, but that’s not the case. None of the 10 players on either team will return.
One of League of Legends potential dynasties disappeared in the blink of an eye. While it’s too bad fans will never get to see what could have been the best team in all-time continue their rampage, it’s also important that the players earn what they are worth. And apparently, they’re worth a lot, based off the transfer fees reportedly paid to acquire them.
