Copenhagen Wolves is moving on from its Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team.
The esports organization made the announcement today on the team’s official website.
The roster had undergone a series of changes in December, with three players in total leaving. The most notable loss was former captain Lukas “Glaive” Rossander, who departed after a controversy at a live event for a Danish domestic league hosted by Gaming.dk.
Rossander was replaced on an interim basis by former Dignitas captain Henrik “Fetish” Christensen with the team aiming to qualify for MLG’s debut Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament at X Games Aspen. But Copenhagen Wolves fell short in qualifying, and now the team will be moving on.
The players’ contracts came to an end at the start of the new year, and a new deal couldn’t be reached between the two sides.
Team manager Frederik Byskov clarified the reasoning behind the move in a statement.
“We made (the team) an offer and after a few negotiating meetings it was clear Copenhagen Wolves’ new strategy didn’t align with the expectations of the team,” Byskov said.
The “new strategy” Byskov alludes to follows investment company Diglife acquiring a significant stake in the organization in December. Diglife now holds stakes in three European esports organizations, including Ninjas in Pyjamas and LGB Esports.
Byskod did promise that Copenhagen Wolves would continue to be a presence in the Counter-Strike scene, with a new roster to be announced “soon.”
Plans for newly released Jacob “Pimp” Winneche and his teammates are now unclear, though Winneche offered optimism to his fans.
Winneche said he and his fellow former squadmates at Copenhagen Wolves have remained together as a team even after parting ways with the organization.
