Faceit to boast $250,000 CS:GO prize pool in 2015

Gaming platform FACEIT will feature a $250,000 prize pool for its Counter-Strike league in 2015, sources close to the organization have revealed

Gaming platform FACEIT will feature a $250,000 prize pool for its Counter-Strike league in 2015, sources close to the organization have revealed. This represents a huge increase in the total prize money paid out in 2014, close to $100,000, and puts FACEIT league competitions in line with Valve’s crowd-funded major tournaments.

The huge amount will be spread over a year-long league season that will feature three LAN finals across the course of that season. “The league will have three live finals at various points of the season. It will also feature demotions and promotions through play-offs, so there will be a rotation of new teams coming in at various points,” one source told us. It’s not clear how the money will be divided, or how the initial selection for this league will be made. The source did say to expect an official announcement in “the next few days” clarifying these points.

With Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournaments on the increase, several players and managers have already expressed concerns about a packed calendar, similar to the situation that has recently developed in Dota 2. FACEIT are hoping that their unprecedented prize fund will continue to keep the best teams interested in competing in their tournaments.
