With the League Championship Series start inching closer and closer, the last few teams without full rosters are looking to fill their holes.
Apollo “WizFujiiN” Price will join Team Impulse to man the marksman position for the squad formerly known at LMQ, the team revealed on on New Year’s Eve.
Price competed as a member of Team LoLPro during their Expansion Tournament bid last month, but he’s most well known for his stint in the LCS as a member of Team Coast during the Spring Split of 2014. The team managed to sneak into the playoffs with a 10-18 record, but finished in sixth place, leading to a relegation match they lost to Complexity. Price’s season was a bit disappointing, finishing the split with a 84 kills, 84 deaths, and 138 assists, or a 2.64 KDA—only better than one other marksman player that season.
Despite middling results in the LCS, Price has maintained a reputation as a dominant player in solo queue, and that’s attracted Team Impulse’s attention.
Price is the fourth member of the former LMQ squad Team Impulse, who rebranded due to an identity crisis after most of their Chinese roster returned home. The only remaining holdover from last season is mid laner Xian “XiaoWeiXiao” Yu, who gives the team at least some star power after an offseason filled with uncertainty. He’ll be flanked in the jungle by Korean solo queue star Lee “Rush” YoonJae.
Price’s bottom lane partner is Adrian “Popstar Adrian” Ma, a collegiate League of Legends star who left the Robert Morris University varsity team to go pro, a move similar to Price’s departure from the University of Washington to join Coast in the LCS. The team has yet to fill their top lane position.
It’s quite a rag-tag band. Price is perhaps the least exciting aspect of the roster, a player who’s already played in the LCS but only had middling success. But the 20-year-old may have more to give, if his solo queue career is any indication. Team Impulse certainly thinks so.
