Team Acer have announced the acquisition of a Counter-Strike team made up of five Swedish players. The new roster is headlined by Frej “Khrystal” Sjostrom and Bjorn “Threat” Pers, both of whom have competed at Counter-Strike’s highest levels of play in previous iterations of the game.

While their past resumes include venerable teams like Fnatic and SK Gaming, stints for Sjostrom and Pers on those teams came several years ago, and it remains to be seen if they are capable of leading a team to the top of the international scene in 2015.

Other plays on the team will include Christian “Spitfire” Schiolde, Fredrik “Slap” Junbrant and John “Wenton” Eriksson.

In an official statement , Sjostrom acknowledged that the team was no sure thing, but professed optimism for their potential future.

“I personally like to thank Team Acer for taking a leap of faith,”  Sjostrom said. “I know this team hasn’t shown anything yet, but I feel that we have huge potential to make anything happen.”

The team will also employ a coach, fellow Swede Jerry “Vetic” Fors, who revealed that the squad would make their live debut next month at Copenhagen Games.

Team Acer CEO Uwe Semtner cited the continued resurgence of Counter-Strike, particularly the continually rising viewership numbers, as reason for his organization getting involved with the game’s professional scene.

The organization’s most notable presence in esports has been in StarCraft 2, where it brought big-name players like Sasha “Scarlett” Hostyn and Mun “MMA” Seong Wan. Acer’s new Counter-Strike team aren’t yet positioned to play on quite the same level as their StarCraft 2 counterparts, but as Sjostrom professes, the potential is there.
