Fnatic secured their second major in a row and their third overall at ESL One Cologne, defeating EnVyUs in the finals 2-0 and claiming $100,000.
The favourites coming into the tournament, Fnatic looked comfortable through the group stage, dominating eBettle and Na’Vi 16-2. In front of a packed Lanxess Arena, they moved past Luminosity with a 2-0 series win, before an entertaining semifinal with the Polish team Virtus.pro.
Fnatic looked to be struggling as they dropped the first game to VP 16-6, but rallied back to win the series 2-1.
In the final, Fnatic managed another 2-0 series win, but it was anything but comfortable. EnVyUs took a 14-7 lead on Dust 2 in game one—however, after a timeout Fnatic was able to rally back and take the game to overtime, eventually winning 19-15.
In the second game, Fnatic looked much more in command, with EnVyUs star player Kenny “kennyS” Schrub failing to put in a top performance, and the Swedes took the game 16-7.
With the victory, Fnatic stakes a claim as being the undisputed best team in the world, having won both of 2015’s majors so far.
