The first Play it Cool Hearthstone ladder marathon event in May was a big success, with fans tuning over a 24-hours to see their favorite streamers climb the ranks. Now the fan-favorite event is coming back.
Four of Hearthstone‘s top personalities will converge on Sweden on Oct. 16 to play in the unique tournament. Instead of battling each other, the players will take on the ladder. With fresh accounts, the players must acquire cards and climb as high as they can in just 24 hours.
Sebastian “Forsen” Fors, Janne “Savjz” Mikkonen and Andrey “Reynad” Yanyuk will return, but joining them this time will be 2014 world champion James “Firebat” Kostesich. The contest is a promotional event for ASUS.
Mikkonen will be looking to defend the trophy after winning a deciding playoff against Fors in May’s inaugural event. It ended with some controversy after the rules were unclear on what should happen in the case of a tie.
Aggressive decks flourished in May, with Mech Shaman and Warlock Zoo particularly popular. Yanyuk tried out a Mech Priest as well, with unsuccessful results.
Though the first event was produced by ESL in Cologne, this time players will instead travel to Stockholm with DreamHack running the show. Once again, Dan “Frodan” Chou will host the stream, which will feature a number of casters and personalities. All four players will also stream on their own channels for the full period.
Last time, rank four was the peak—can someone go all the way to legend this time?
