The Danes took the ELEAGUE Group C final series with a 2-1 victory over CLG. Here is the quick breakdown:

  • Astralis won 16-7 against CLG on Mirage
  • CLG won 19-16 against Astralis on Dust II
  • Astralis on 16-11 against CLG on Overpass

Earlier in the week, Astralis played with Danny “zonic” Sørensen, the team’s coach, as Finn “karrigan” Andersen had to file for an expedited visa after his ESTA was denied. Day three was the first day that karrigan could play with the team.

But Astralis was not the only team with a standin. CLG is currently searching for a fifth member, so the team is playing with their coach, Faruk “pita” Pita, as well.

On the first map, Mirage, Astralis dominated CLG, showing the team’s skill on their counter-terrorist side, which brought the team to 11 round wins and only needing five more rounds on their terrorist half. Astralis brought the game to a close with a score of 16-7.

Dust II was a different story. CLG held on to Astralis until the Danes got up to 15 round wins. The North American boys clutched up and brought themselves to 15, pushing game two into overtime.

CLG took control of the first half of overtime, not allowing Astralis to get a round in until the first second half round. CLG, with the help of Josh “jdm64” Marzano, pulled through to take the second map, bring the score to 1-1. This was the first time Astralis had lost to CLG.

Map three was Overpass. At first, CLG seemed to control the map, but Astralis soon gained composure. The Danish team used patience and took advantage of time to take the second win of the night, with a score of 16-11, to win the series.

By taking the first place win, Astralis has earned a spot in the playoffs during the final weeks of ELEAGUE. CLG will have a second chance to qualify for the playoffs in the last-chance qualifier week, along with the rest of the teams.

On Tuesday, Group D of ELEAGUE will begin with Team Dignitas, FaZe Clan, FNATIC and Team SoloMid. Who do you expect to see top the upcoming group? Make sure to give us a follow on Twitter, @GAMURScom, for live coverage and esports news.
