Finally, after three long weeks of waiting, the reunion of legends has finally happened. We finally witnessed Jang “MaRin” Gyeong-hwan play against his former team, SK Telecom T1. Unable to qualify for the 2016 World Championship with LGD Gaming, this match was the first time MaRin faced his former SKT teammates (except Bae “Bengi” Seong-woong, who is on Vici Gaming) since his departure back at the end of 2015.

Afreeca Freecs: Giant Slayers

Taking a game off the undefeated KT Rolster last week, many were curious to see if MaRin alongside the Afreeca Freecs could do the same to world champions SK Telecom T1. Not only did the Freecs put a blemish SKT’s record, they gave SKT their first series loss. Finding early level one kills on the members of SKT in both games, the Freecs were able to keep hold of their lead, producing two convincing victories. Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon, who has had an amazing performance so far this split looked quite lackluster against MaRin. Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok seemed to be out of sorts this series. Playing needlessly overaggressive on Katarina and Ryze, Faker was getting outplayed this series by Lee “Kuro” Seo-haeng, someone he has historically bested time and time again. It will be interesting to see if the Freecs will be able to maintain this level of skill, or if they will have another lackluster performance similar to their loss against the Jin Air Green Wings last week. Fingers crossed it’s the former rather than the latter.

The Roosters Have Returned To Earth

Despite ushering in the year of the rooster, the Chinese New year has not been so kind to the bbq Olivers. After receiving three consecutive losses, the bbq Olivers have dropped from third to sixth place in the LCK standings. While unfortunate, this drop was inevitable. Having one of the easiest strength of schedules, the bbq rose through the standings in the first couple of weeks beating the bottom tier LCK teams. But the bbq Olivers could only postpone their dates with the top teams for long. Losing to Longzhu and SKT, the bbq Olivers have dropped in the standings to a position more accurate to their skill level. But, not all is lost for the roosters. Finally getting to play the top teams, the bbq Olivers have hopefully taken something away from their losses, letting the team grow further.
