HellRaisers’ dramatic journey through the StarSeries group stage was one of big stories of the event so far. Now the CIS team has gone one step further, eliminating overwhelming favorites North in the StarSeries Season 3 quarterfinals.
For HellRaisers, this is the team’s first significant run in nearly a year, as the squad will now be facing FaZe Clan in the semifinals of the $300,000 event.
After a 9-16 loss on Cobblestone Hellraisers had to battle back against North, winning the next two games 16-14 and 16-11 to reach the final four.
The squad’s original star player Vladyslav “bondik” Nechyporchuk, as well as their rifler Patrik “Zero” Žúdel, put on incredible performances across all maps of the series. Acting as the vanguard for the squad, both players ended the match with more than 60 kills a piece. But these performances pale in comparison to that of North’s René “cajunb” Borg, who scored the most frags out of all players on the server with a total of 71 kills to his name.
Aside from North’s disappointing exit, the team delivered what will probably become one of the biggest highlights of the event on the final round on Overpass. The team debuted a boost previously unseen in competitive play, as three North players boosted one of their team mates to the top of the Mid Door, giving the boosted player clear sight into the B bomb site.
Fancy plays aside, North were unable to gain an advantage from the innovative boost, and instead head home. For HellRaisers, however, the team is now entering its first top four placement in almost a year.
