One of Sweden’s most successful Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams has released one of its former players from the squad.
Despite winning two tournaments in 2016, the legendary Swedish CS:GO squad NiP benched Jacob “pyth” Mourujärvi on March 23 to make way for current AWPer William “draken” Sundin. Now, however, pyth’s contract with NiP has officially expired, meaning pyth is a free agent.
Pyth joined NiP in early 2016 after the team’s former AWPer Aleksi “allu” Jalli left the team. NiP went on to become quite successful internationally, winning DreamHack Masters Malmö on April 16, and IEM Oakland on Nov. 20. But despite their two LAN victories, NiP were unable to qualify for the ELEAGUE Major in late 2016, prompting a roster change that saw pyth get removed from the legendary squad.
While not getting the chance to compete further with NiP, pyth began playing in a Swedish mix team consisting of former NiP player Mikail “Maikelele” Bill, Faruk “pita” Pita, and Alexander “SKYTTEN” Carlsson on May 2.
Whether pyth chooses to continue competing with this set of players, however, remains to be seen.
