Bethesda aims to showcase competitive Quake ambitions at E3

Bethesda looks to highlight the game and it's competitive ambitions in a two-day event.

Bethesda and ESL are teaming up to showcase Quake‘s newest game, Quake Champions, on the esports stage.

From June 14 to 15 fans will be able to watch livestreamed competitive gameplay of Quake Champions on the Quake Champions Twitch channel. The stream will feature interviews with players and developers, as well as prize giveaways between games.

Those lucky enough to attend E3 will also have a chance to play against some of the best Quake competitors attending the event in a “Pros vs Joes” showcase. These showcases will pit E3 attendees against professional players and the game’s creators.

The professional players set to take part include members of Team Liquid’s 2016 QuakeCon champion Shane “rapha” Hendrixson. He will be appearing alongside Andrew “id_” Trulli, Tim “DaHanG” Fogarty, and Kevin “AZK” Larivière—currently his teammates on Liquid’s Overwatch team.

Quake Champions is currently in open beta with a worldwide release expected sometime this year. Players are hoping to hear more about the game at E3 as well as an official release date.

Quake is widely considered to be one of the initial games that created the esports movement, and was a crucial part of the growth of competitive gaming at LAN events in the 1990s. With that heritage, the potential of an esports resurgence with Quake Champions created a lot of excitement last year when the game was revealed.
