The developer, 11 bit studios, warned that some of the changes in this patch might not work in existing save files. For a better experience, you should create a new save. The developer added that it’s still working on fixing the stability issues on MacOS and audio issues.

Here’s everything included in the day one patch on Sept. 20 for Frostpunk 2.

Gameplay changes

The gameplay changes in the day one patch makes the game a little harder across multiple difficulties. The weather timeline has been adjusted on Steward and Captain difficulties, and the starting Trust is now lower across all difficulties. In story mode, long harvesting sites now last for 20 percent less.

Things are a bit spicier now during the war, too. The first Faction War spread now occurs after 10 weeks rather than 15. When dealing with protests and a Faction War, the Enforce Peace ability now requires a Prison, and the Protect People ability now costs 24 Guard Squads, so make sure to come prepared when heading into Chapter Five of the story mode.

This patch also comes with mission fixes, including a potential softlock in Chapter Five if you were resorting to radical solutions during the playthrough.

UI and art improvements

Dark mode received major improvements and polish. Keep in mind that it still hinders the experience, especially at the end of the story mode when you have to deal with the Civil War. You might want to keep it off—at least for your first playthrough. Other changes address UI bugs, like the Zeitgeist text leaking outside the tooltip, and polish in-game art.

Bug and crash fixes

Finally, the day one patch includes bug and crash fixes. The developer fixed multiple rare crashes that appeared under specific circumstances (like saving the game before opening messages) and polished in-game audio. Overall, you should have a smoother experience when starting a new game after the official launch.

These are the biggest changes in the Frostpunk 2 day one patch. For the full list of improvements, check out the official patch notes.
