How to break the ice seal in Astro Bot

Breaking the seal.

Creamy Canyon’s ice seal looks majestic and stands proud in Astro Bot. On the other hand, it seems breakable, and that’s because it is, and you need to know how to destroy the sculpture if you want to fully complete the platformer.

Each main level in Astro Bot hides many secrets from Bots to Puzzle Pieces. Creamy Canyon is one of the earliest levels in the cutesy title, and while it is a sweet treat, it’s also the first example of how good Team Asobi is at hiding things in plain sight.

The Creamy Canyon ice seal is hiding something—and not just the Puzzle Piece in front of it—so let’s cut the chitchat and break the ice.

You need to swing one of the pink pig enemies at the ice seal sculpture to break it in Astro Bot‘s Creamy Canyon level.

You don’t unlock new abilities and return to use them in earlier levels like other platformers and adventure games. What you see is what you get in each Astro Bot level. The ice seal is an early indicator of this, and after some trial and error, I finally realized you needed to throw the enemy (in our “No way” screenshot above) at the ice sculpture.

Here’s a quick step-by-step guide on what to do:

  1. Load into the Creamy Canyon level.
  2. Progress through the level until you reach the area where a creature is flying overhead in circles carrying Psycho Mantis (unless you’ve already rescued them), and you can see the ice sculpture up above.
  3. Advance past this area to the next—featuring a big platform filled with sprinkles and the pink enemy.
  4. Allow it to charge at you, jump over its attack, and grab the loose wires sticking out the back of it.
  5. Get as close to the ice seal as you can, and eventually, a lock-on indicator appears on the sculpture.
  6. Release the enemy and watch as the ice seal completely shatters.

You can now go back over to where the seal was, and in its place, you can now find a glowing blue cross. Use Astro’s charge attack on this, and the titular hero burrows down into the hole. At the bottom of the new path, you find one of the game’s 10 secret exits.

Escape the level through this special gold exit and unlock a new level. Now you know how to do this, check out how to complete the Deep-Pocket Dragon trophy, how to knock a Bot out of a Tower without it collapsing, and how to freeze a hammer-wielding deity with the axe.
