How to Get Giant Bug Brain Cores in Core Keeper

Get ready to squish a very big bug.

Giant Bug Brain Core is an epic crafting material in Core Keeper, and it’s a crucial drop from the Sand Titan, Ra-Akar. This rare item is necessary for crafting the Hydra Altar, needed to craft the boss-summoning items for Druidra, Crydra and Pyrdra.

However, acquiring a Giant Bug Brain is no easy task—it requires finding, summoning, and defeating one of the game’s most powerful bosses. But don’t worry, if we made it, you can too. Here’s a detailed guide to help you get Giant Bug Brain Cores from Ra-Akar the Sand Titan in Core Keeper.

How to Find the Sand Titan in Core Keeper

The first step to obtaining the Giant Bug Brain is to locate Ra-Akar, the Sand Titan. You can find this boss in the Desert of Beginnings, a biome you only unlock after defeating the first three bosses in the game and awakening the Core near the first teleport, where you spawn. But the Desert of Beginnings is massive, and finding the exact location of the boss can be challenging—unless you have a special item. To find Ra-Akar’s exact location, you need the Ra-Akar the Sand Titan Scanner, which you can craft at the Ancient Hologram Pod.

To make this scanner, you need the following materials:

  • 20 Ancient Gemstone
  • 10 Mechanical Parts
  • 40 Scarab Wingcovers

Ancient Gemstones and Mechanical Parts can be found throughout various biomes, but Scarab Wingcovers are specific to the desert. Scarab Wingcovers are scattered on the ground and can be picked up with a simple left-click. Once you’ve gathered the required materials, craft the scanner at the Ancient Hologram Pod, and you’ll be able to use it to pinpoint Ra-Akar’s exact location on the map.

How to Summon the Sand Titan in Core Keeper

Once you’ve found Ra-Akar’s location, your next task is to reach it and summon him. To do this, you need another key item: the Thumper, one of three boss-summoning items in Core Keeper. And, like the Scanner, you craft it at the Ancient Hologram Pod.

To craft a Thumper, you need the following resources:

  • 50 Fiber
  • 50 Planks
  • 30 Scarlet Bars
  • 30 Galaxite Bars
  • 10 Mechanical Parts
  • 20 Ancient Gemstones

Once you have the Thumper, you need to place it in the middle of Ra-Akar’s den. When activated, the Thumper summons Ra-Akar, initiating a difficult boss fight.

The desert Titan has a variety of attack patterns, including firing orbs at the player and, in the later stages of the fight, summoning Bomb Scarabs—the annoyingly fast desert mobs that explode upon death.

Remember to bring plenty of health potions to sustain yourself throughout the fight, and focus on using ranged weapons to maintain distance and avoid Ra-Akar’s powerful attacks. Reinforcing your armor ahead of the fight at your Anvil station will help reduce the damage you take from his orbs and the Bomb Scarabs he summons in later stages.

And, if possible, fight alongside a friend, as this not only increases your damage output but also helps avoid the boss despawning in case you die. Set up a portal nearby before the battle, so that any fallen player can quickly return to the fight and prevent Ra-Akar from despawning.

After the tough battle, you get the Soul of Ra-Akar and a guaranteed Giant Bug Brain drop. This epic crafting material is essential for creating the station needed to find the last three bosses in Core Keeper, and get one step closer to finishing the game so you can return home.
