Destiny 2’s swords will have infinite ammo next week as part of new special event

Slice and dice at will, Guardians.

A new kind of limited-time event is coming to Destiny 2 next week, and it’s all about inspiring Guardians to use the most classic of melee weapons: It’s time to bust out your best heavy swords.

Starting at Destiny 2’s weekly reset on Sept. 3 and lasting for one full week, swords in the Heavy slot will generate ammo. That’s right, infinite ammo for swords for one whole week. Get ready to slash up a storm with some of the game’s most fun weapons.

“We want you to have some extra fun while wielding a blade, but not so much that it trivializes raids or competitive game modes,” Bungie said in its weekly blog post. “So, your Swords will have effectively infinite Heavy ammo in Seasonal content, Strikes, Nightfalls, Gambit, the Relic game mode in the Crucible, and Legend and Master Lost Sectors.”

During the week of the sword, there will be four seasonal challenges that are focused on getting sword kills in the above activities, so this is a great time to knock those out while mindlessly slashing away.

Bungie will also be holding a contest for “crazy” clips using swords that are to be posted on social media using the hashtag #SwordLogic, and winners chosen for Movie of the Week will earn a special emblem.

“When we say crazy, we mean things like defeating flying bosses with Caster Frame Swords, going full stealth on a certain moth-infested cyst with Heartshadow, completing a Grandmaster Nightfall only with Lament, hunting Guardians down in Gambit with an Eager Edge sword,” Bungie said. “Just think outside the box for this one because we’ve seen enough well-skating skips for a lifetime.”

Destiny 2’s “sword week” will end at weekly reset on Sept. 10, so get your sword kills in while you can.
