One of Apex Legends’ historically worst guns is dominating the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs

Lifeline would be so proud.

As Lifeline always likes to tell us: “Mozambique here,” there’s never been a more appropriate time to say it. Because for the first time in Apex Legends history, the Mozambique really is here—and it’s here to demolish the ALGS Split Two competition.

The Mozambique has quickly become the top secondary weapon and shotgun in the ALGS Split Two Playoffs. In fact, it is currently the most picked weapon at the LAN event, and it’s already registered 198 kills only one day into the event. Its popularity is replicated in public and ranked lobbies, but with the current meta of Crypto-Newcastle on show at LAN, the choice for double Mozam is an obvious one to deal high burst damage in stifling battles.

It wasn’t that long ago we saw the sheer power of the HAVOC and Hemlok combination in the Split One Playoffs back in May 2024. While these weapons remain in the top four, the akimbo Mozambiques are a force of nature across all ALGS regions. Yes, it’s somewhat overpowered right now, but this weapon is strong for controller and mouse and keyboard players alike, which makes it more balanced than the SMG and HAVOC-dominated close-range meta of the last year.

We rarely saw the Mozambique picked up in previous LANs (unless it was a desperate attempt to use the Digital Threat until it was eventually removed from Apex). Other shotguns were always used in favor of the Mozambique (like APAC North’s love for the Peacekeeper). Since season 22 however, the Mozambique has become a pro favorite and played significantly more than its akimbo cousin, the P2020s.

It is highly likely these weapons will receive a nerf in an upcoming patch as their strength (especially with Hammerpoint Rounds) is overwhelming compared to other secondaries. But the akimbo Mozambique is a welcoming change to the ALGS, as I believe it levels the playing field for both inputs.
