Gamers are certain that the devkit Hideo Kojima is using is a PlayStation 5 Pro, and the fact that he’s covering the console is adding fuel to that fire.
Hideo Kojima’s personal assistant Ayako Terashima regularly posts updates of what the famous developer is up to, and today, it was a picture of him playtesting an upcoming release. Kojima quote-reposted, discussing the process and telling fans “it’s going to be a little bit more” before the game comes out.
Fans were excited to see an update for what appears to be Death Stranding 2, based on the parcel loosely in frame. However, others zeroed in on the chunky figure Kojima’s DualSense controller is connected to. Based on how large it appears to be, many are under the assumption that this is a PlayStation 5 Pro.
There is reason to believe the PS5 Pro, codenamed Trinity, is alive and well. Tom Henderson corroborated reports earlier this year that the Pro would have a 28 percent bump in system memory and a High Frequency mode that gives it a 10 percent boost in CPU performance. Furthermore, Henderson noted the PS5 Pro devkits “look identical to the standard PS5 devkits.”
Reaching as far back as February 2024, which is around when rumors for the PS5 Pro were most active, Kojima can be seen working off of a similarly obscured hunk of machinery. Kojima and Terashima have gone to great lengths to make the platform in use difficult to identify, but it is plausible that it’s the highest end product available from PlayStation.
In addition to Death Stranding 2 and OD, Kojima is working on a third game set to be Metal Gear Solid’s spiritual successor, and it’s locked-in for the PS5. Some gamers believe this mystery machine is a PC, which would make sense for plenty of developers, but with all the things Kojima’s got going on, there’s more room to assume he’s hands on with the PlayStation 5 Pro.
