How to get and use FLAM-66 Torcher in Helldivers 2

Get the fire going.

The Freedom’s Flame Warbond gives you a chance to fully kit yourself out with flamethrowers, including one in your primary weapon slot, FLAM-66 Torcher. Here’s how to get FLAM-66 Torcher in Helldivers 2 and whether it’s worth using.

To unlock FLAM-66 Torcher in Helldivers 2, you have to buy the Freedom’s Flame premium Warbond for 1,000 Super Credits, which is around $10. Once you have the Warbond, you can unlock the weapon on the second page for 40 Medals.

The FLAM-66 Torcher is a flamethrower that goes into your primary weapon slot. According to the description, the weapon has medium armor penetration. But in light of the latest flame changes, it doesn’t penetrate armor (or it’s just very bad at it).

Here are the FLAM-66 Torcher’s stats:

  • Damage per second: 250
  • Capacity: 80
  • Recoil: 3

It has low base damage, but fire DoT and six fuel canisters make up for it, allowing you to scorch earth without taking breaks.

Is FLAM-66 Torcher worth it in Helldivers 2?

The FLAM-66 Torcher feels like Flamethrower’s little brother. It has smaller flames but is still decent at clearing out weaker enemies. Since it’s a primary weapon, you now also have a free slot for a different support Stratagem.

As mentioned, this weapon can’t deal with armored enemies even though its description states it has medium armor penetration. If you have a bunch of Hive Guards tucked in front of you, the best thing you can do is light the ground on fire and wait until they burn down. Or call in an Eagle.

You can use the Torcher, but you need to plan your loadout around it. Ideally, you want teammates with more long-range options, as Torcher doesn’t have much range. Armor with the Inflammable passive is also recommended. With the fire going left and right, it’s easy to get caught in it yourself, resulting in a quick and painful death.

This weapon isn’t something I’d take in solo runs on high-difficulty missions, but with the right loadout, you can make it work.
