Niantic to hold Pokémon Go Fest make up event with guaranteed Special Backgrounds

What will it be?

Niantic is planning to release a special Timed Research questline for those affected by a Pokémon Go Fest 2024: Global issue that happened over the first day of the festivities.

During day one of Pokémon Go Fest 2024: Global, Special Backgrounds, which are a special postcard art background that can appear behind certain Pokémon in raids, were not obtainable when using Remote Raid Passes. To compensate for the issue, Niantic plans to give trainers guaranteed Special Background encounters sometime soon.

The date for this event hasn’t been announced yet. Still, Niantic has revealed some details on a social media post on X. For starters, trainers will get encounters with Ultra Beasts and Necrozma, and each trainer will earn additional rewards depending on the amount of Remote Raid Passes they used over the first day of the event. Exact numbers and how things are calculated are also unknown.

There were several Pokémon that were impacted by this issue on day one. While it’s nice trainers can get guaranteed Special Backgrounds, the chances of getting a Shiny Pokémon with a Special Background are all but impossible. That’s not to say you can’t get one, but the odds aren’t in your favor.

Still, at least it’s something, but the lack of information from Niantic on how and when they plan to do this is concerning. Like with previous makeup events, we imagine Niantic will drop it suddenly without warning and leave trainers scrambling. If that ends up happening, best of luck getting ready for some Ultra Beast encounters as fast as possible
