Aim assist is officially getting a nerf in Apex season 22

Is it time to put the pitchforks down?

The EWC Apex tournament isn’t the only thing to get excited about this August for fans of the game, as the biggest change in Apex Legends history is just around the corner, with aim assist finally getting its much-deserved nerf.

Announced Aug. 1 via Dexerto alongside the release of Apex‘s season 22: Shockwave gameplay trailer drop, it is official that Apex‘s aim assist will be reduced by 25 percent going forward. This nerf will affect those playing with a controller on PC and crossplay lobbies alike, reducing the aim assist strength from 0.4 to 0.3.

While cheaters remain a prevalent problem in Apex Legends, aim assist continues to cause issues across the casual and pro player base in clean play as well, with pros like ImperialHal, Abralelie, Frexs, JMW, and more having to swap to controller due to the gunfight advantage offered. This much-needed nerf has followed the recent backlash from the battle pass changes (which Respawn backtracked on).

Aim assist nerfs were briefly announced and under speculation back in Oct. 2023, noted by HYPERMYST on X (formerly known as Twitter). It was originally stated that Respawn Entertainment was looking into aim assist tweaks over the “next couple of years.” Well, for the many players eagerly awaiting this change, their dreams would come true a mere 10 months later.
