The First Descendant players love to experiment with weapons, Modules, and Descendants, but they unanimously agree that Shotguns are totally lackluster.
Shotguns, the close-range, burst-firing, head-popping weapons popular in many games (especially looter-shooters), are completely disliked by The First Descendant playerbase. They’re so hated that one Redditor compiled a detailed breakdown of why Shotguns are bad on July 31 explaining exactly why this weapon archetype is useless.
While the game encourages you to experiment with various weapon archetypes, almost nobody uses a Shotgun. The reason? It’s a very inaccurate weapon with underwhelming firepower and none of the efficiency we’re used to seeing in other shooters.
According to the Reddit post by user PizzaCrusty, even if you equip an accuracy Module on a Shotgun, the accuracy is still way off the mark. Commenters also compared Shotguns to weapons like Sniper Rifles, which are also disliked but at least offer higher damage and can penetrate enemies. The worst aspect of Shotguns seems to be that critical hits don’t do any more damage.
“As someone who used a shotgun once, shot once, and was utterly appalled by the lack of enemies exploding into smithereens (hah), I can confirm that shotguns are indeed useless currently,” the top comment says. We’ve also experimented with Shotguns in The First Descendant, and we have to agree they simply don’t feel powerful.
The First Descendant has been out for almost a month, and despite mixed reviews, the game still has a large playerbase. Even though the developer has been listening and fixing issues, there are still lots of things that need improving, and Shotguns are definitely one of them.
