Best Freyna build in The First Descendant

"Do as I say, if you want to live."

Spreading poison around a battlefield and inflicting damage over time is incredibly fun in The First Descendant—and no one does it like Freyna, the Dominator of Venom.

After picking your starting Descendant, you’ll be directed to unlock other Descendants. Freyna should be your top priority given her solo potential and damage. With a couple of module tweaks, she can even operate as a handy support.

Here’s our best all-round build for Freyna in The First Descendant, including weapons, modules, reactors, components, and more.

Freyna specializes in spreading poison and dealing damage over time to large groups of enemies—the more enemies poisoned at any one time, the more damage she’ll put out. Here’s all Freyna’s skills and abilities in The First Descendant.

  • Venom Trauma: Freyna fires a Toxic Bullet that deals significant damage. The bullet explodes, creating a Toxic Puddle and applying Room Zero Trauma to all enemies hit. Foes that enter the puddle are Poisoned.
  • Defense Mechanism: A self-buff for Freyna that grants her Plague Bodyarmor, increasing her DEF significantly. Enemies that attack Frena while she’s buffed receive Room Zero Trauma, while others nearby are Poisoned.
  • Putrid Venom: Freyna spreads poison in a large AoE on the ground, creating a Toxic Swamp. Enemies that enter the swamp are Poisoned and Venom-Soaked, leaving Toxic Footprints wherever they walk. Enemies that contact the footprints are Poisoned.
  • Venom Baptism: Freyna equips a Unique Weapon that fires bullets infected with Room Zero Trauma. The weapon expires after a set duration or after the weapon’s magazine is expended.
  • Contagion Links (Passive): Freyna’s Toxic Skill Power is increased based on the number of living enemies affected by Poison.

Best Freyna weapons in The First Descendant

Securing a good Ultimate Weapon takes time, but in Freyna’s case, the Fallen Hope is that good you’ll want to invest plenty of resources and time into picking one up. This assault rifle is perfect for any Freyna build due to its interaction with Toxic and Poison.

Fallen Hope’s unique ability grants a Firearm ATK buff to Freyna every time she shoots a Poisoned target. When killing an enemy with Fallen Hope, there’s a chance they’ll explode and further spread the Poisoned effect to nearby enemies. With careful planning on how you use your Toxic skills and apply Room Zero Trauma and Poisoned effects, you’ll be able to spread your poison across the entire landscape.

I’ve paired this with a heavy shotgun as I like to get up close and personal with enemies thanks to Defense Mechanism. Otherwise, weapons are personal preference—just make sure you have options for both short and long ranges and your weapon matches that of your Reactor enhancement.

Best Freyna Reactors in The First Descendant

Apart from actually enabling you to use your abilities, Reactors provide an essential boost to outgoing damage. For Freyna, you’ll be chasing any Toxic Mechanics Reactor, ideally with boosts to Skill Power or DEF.

Rare Reactors work just fine, as long as you use the class associated with each Reactor for the maximum benefit, but the dream Reactor is the Ultimate-grade boost with Fallen Hope. This one won’t be super easy to acquire, so in the meantime, you can use any Toxic Mechanics Reactor you can get your hands on.

Best Freyna Modules in The First Descendant

Our build doesn’t specifically include a Transcendent Module, but if I had to pick one, Contagion would be my go-to option. Contagion works similarly to Fallen Hope in that enemies with Room Zero Trauma spread even more Poison on death.

Otherwise, here’s a recommended list of which modules you should use and the benefits they provide. These are ordered, so work your way down the list and add them as you collect them.

ModuleBenefit
Increased DEFSignificantly boosts DEF for survivability
Shock PunchBoosts charged melee damage, increases module capacity.
Focus on ToxicBoosts Toxic Skill Power and reduces skill cooldown.
Toxic SpecialistBoosts Toxic Skill Power.
Spear and ShieldIncreases DEF and Skill Power.
Increased HPIncreases your HP by a set percentage.
Skill InsightSkills now have a chance to crit.
Nimble FingersReduces skill cooldown per level.
Front LinesSignificantly increases skill crit rate and damage.
Skill ExtensionMassively increases skill duration.

Until you reach the higher levels and acquire all these modules, it’s best to focus on ensuring you have decent HP and DEF modules to get you to endgame content without dying.

Best Freyna External Components in The First Descendant

You’ll want to increase DEF with External Components for Freyna, as this is further enhanced by Defense Mechanism. Otherwise, prioritize any of the following in this order:

  • Defense (DEF)
  • Max HP
  • Max Shield

For extra perks, look for MP Recovery out of combat or boosts to Max MP. Extra shields also aren’t bad, but remember our focus is on DEF.
