Blizzard has developed its very own Overwatch Workshop. It allows players to tinker with the script of the game, experiment, and create brand-new, unique game modes. It’s an exciting prospect for scripters, and it’s been well received by the community.
The Workshop hasn’t been released yet on the live servers, but it’s scheduled to drop in about two weeks. When it’s finally available for everyone to use, there’s going to be an explosion of new content. There’s already been tons of game modes and inventions created, but by the time it’s on the live servers, you can expect even more content.
If you’re someone with a keen interest in the Workshop and you want to try it out for size, the Public Test Realm (PTR) is just a click away.
Once you’ve built your new game mode and you’re willing to share it with the community, there’s a number of options. You could leave your game mode open for unsuspecting players to stumble upon, but you’re not likely going to get many takers.
The best way to share your Workshop creation is by copying your script. You can do this by clicking Play once you’ve loaded up Overwatch, finding the Game Browser, clicking Create, Settings, Share, and finally Copy.
Once you’ve done this, you’ll have a unique code that lasts for six months and can be shared and used on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
You can now easily share your creation with your friends, but it’ll require a little more effort to help spread it across the world. If you think your new game mode is worthy enough of exposure, you can share your code and add a description (or ideally a video that details the ins and outs of your creation).
There are a number of places where you can share it, but the best spots are the Overwatch subreddit, the Overwatch Competitive subreddit, or the official Overwatch forums.
