PUBG is getting monthly leaderboard resets

Brace yourselves, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds players, and get ready to kiss some previous chicken dinners goodbye—at least for a little while.

At the beginning of each month, the game’s leaderboards will be reset, Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene announced in a developer blog post. The resets will be in an effort to fully balance the Elo ranking system in the game.

“Next Tuesday, Aug. 1, we will reset our leaderboard once again,” said Greene. “Now that we are getting closer to launch, we will be resetting the leaderboards on the first of each month in order to test new ranking algorithms and Elo changes.”

While the leaderboards will be reset with each month, the stats won’t go away forever. So your hard-earned chicken dinners will still be recorded and seen eventually—just not right away.

“All data from the previous seasons is saved, and while we don’t have a history system yet, moving forward we will enable this in the game and you can view your match records from the previous seasons,” said Greene.

At the end of each month, there will be a 24-hour period of unranked matches as the developers back up and update the leaderboard system. So, just think of it as a really short offseason.

PUBG’s next monthly update is scheduled for Aug. 3, and it will include the addition of first-person-only servers, cosmetic microtransactions, and a brand new weapon.
