Here's what NetEase has in store for us.

Marvel Rivals attracted plenty of interest when NetEase first revealed the title and the closed alpha test has given a closer look at the potential Overwatch killer.

The six-vs-six shooter boasts an impressive roster of Marvel characters, with both recognisable names and some who may have gone under your radar, who all go toe-to-toe in destructible environments from across the Multiverse.

But what modes will be featured in the third-person hero (and villain) shooter? Here’s a list of all the game modes confirmed for Marvel Rivals so far.

The Marvel Rivals developers have confirmed three “distinct” game modes so far: Convoy, Domination, and Convergence.

Players have now experienced those modes in the closed alpha test, which threw up no surprises in the approach to the modes as they were, as you would expect, compared to other titles.

Convoy, as the name suggests, is similar to the Payload or Escort game mode type from Overwatch 2. An attacking team accompanies an objective on a set path through the map, while the defending team attempts to stop it from progressing forward.

Domination features multiple control points that need capturing, similar to the Call of Duty game mode of the same name. Convergence features all players converging to one point in a King of the Hill-style mode with one single control point that changes locations.

Alongside the three game modes, Pocket Universe was also revealed in the closed alpha test, featuring respawns at flexible locations as you defeat as many enemies as possible, and custom matches can also be created.

Will Marvel Rivals have PvE?

As things stand, there has been no confirmed PvE game mode for Marvel Rivals. Dubbed by many as the Overwatch killer, Marvel Rivals seems to be primarily focusing on giving players a solid PvP experience where they can pick out their favorite Marvel hero and duke it out on its stellar-looking maps. The developers have distinctly described the titles as a “matchmaking-based multiplayer game.”

Marvel has already had live-service PvE games, which didn’t meet sales expectations, so it remains to be seen if a PvE mode will ever make an appearance in Marvel Rivals.
