It was a disappointing season for 100 Thieves, who found itself at the bottom of the standings at the end of the 2019 Spring Split. No one, however, is more disappointed than mid laner Choi “Huhi” Jae-hyun, who has been released from the roster.
Huhi was acquired by 100 Thieves during an incredibly-hyped offseason that saw the likes of Bae “Bang” Jun-sik, Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in, and Lee “Crown” Min-ho move over to the LCS. Alongside superstar Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho and veteran support Zaqueri “aphromoo” Black, people put plenty of stock into 100 Thieves before the spring began.
Unfortunately, 100 Thieves could not live up to the immense expectations that were placed on their shoulders. They struggled to build much synergy in the beginning of the season, and never really seemed to build any as the split moved along. From jungler Andy “AnDa” Hoang’s botched ganks to Huhi getting randomly caught out of position, the season was a disaster for 100 Thieves right from the get-go.
Speaking of which, Huhi had one of the worst seasons of his career with the Thieves. Even though he was sent to the Academy League with six games left in the season, he was already lagging behind in almost every relevant statistical category among LCS mid laners. Before his benching, he was in the bottom three for KDA, kills, assists, while also being in the top three in deaths for NA mids.
There were plenty of things going wrong for 100 Thieves this split. The mid lane was only the tip of the iceberg. Hopefully, Huhi can find a team that will trust in his ability to bounce back from this kind of season. Meanwhile, 100 Thieves have plenty of work to do if they want to make a run for the playoffs in the summer.
