If you ever played a Mage in World of Warcraft then you’ll recognize the newest spell card for the class in Hearthstone, Ray of Frost.
Ray of Frost cost one mana and takes advantage of the games new Twinspell mechanic. The spell allows you to freeze an enemy minion, additionally, if the minion is already frozen the spell deals two damage.
Since the card has Twinspell, this means you will get another copy of the card without Twinspell as soon as Ray of Frost is cast. The obvious strategy would be to use your first Ray for the freeze and the second for the damage. Mage definitely has some interesting tools coming with Rise of Shadows, and it will be fun to see what kind of decks they bring to life.
During the majority of Rastakhan’s Rumble the most dominant Mage deck was Odd Mage. Since Baku will soon no longer be available for play in Standard, neither will the Odd archetype. This means Mage will be needing something fresh to make the class competitive. It looks like that might be coming in the form of some new support for Tempo Mage.
You can play Hearthstone’s Rise of Shadows expansion on April 9. Hopefully players are ready for whatever the league of EVIL throws their way.
