Speaking with Brandon “Seagull” Larned during a livestream from the Blizzard booth, Mercer said that Mercy will receive some “interesting and sweet changes” that he couldn’t speak about on stream.

Seagull spoke to Mercer briefly about Mercy’s reliance on her ultimate, Resurrect, after the chat brought the topic up. Plenty of players have been complaining about how Mercy is typically played, lamenting her perceived lack of skill in playing the healer. Many believe that she’s not fun to play with or against, and the community has hope that this adjustment could change that.

Mercer didn’t give an expected timeline for the adjustment.

The Overwatch designer also spoke about Blizzard’s balance philosophy. It’s most important for heroes to feel powerful, like they can make a meaningful impact on a match, Mercer said. “If everyone is overpowered, then everyone is balanced,” Mercer said during the stream.

Following the balance talk, Mercer also confirmed that Overwatch’s competitive season six will receive some changes, too. As with the Mercy adjustments, he wasn’t able to speak explicitly about competitive season six, except that more information will come “very soon.”
