Call of Duty World League adds Zero Specialist to competitive play in Black Ops 4

More updates are coming to the game today, too.

The Call of Duty World League has changed a rule regarding the Zero Specialist in Black Ops 4, allowing her to be utilized in competitive matches moving forward.

This change also applies to League Play, the competitive game mode that was recently added to the title.

Zero joined Black Ops 4 on Dec. 11 as part of the Operation Absolute Zero in-game event, but the Specialist was quickly ruled out of competitive play. This meant that the ruleset between CWL Las Vegas and the CWL Pro League Qualifier remained consistent, allowing teams to continue with their existing strategies.

As the first Specialist introduced to Black Ops 4 since its release, Zero was a controversial addition at the time due to how powerful her abilities were. Treyarch proceeded to nerf Zero on Dec. 18, and now, evidently, the developer believes she’s viable for competitive play.

A follow-up to Zero’s inclusion in the CWL explains that “based on additional player feedback”, AI-controlled scorestreaks such as Drone Squad, Sniper’s Nest, and Strike Team have all been restricted in CWL action and League Play as of March 1.

These aren’t the only changes hitting Black Ops 4 on March 1, though—other alterations will be implemented across casual game modes, too. The changes that will affect those who play the game competitively see the Saug 9mm and Annihilator as subjects of weapon tuning. With those weapons being staples in the CWL and League Play, these changes will also require acclimatization from professional players.

Pros will have less than two weeks to practice with these news rules before they compete at CWL Fort Worth, the next LAN event in the CWL circuit, which kicks off on March 15.
