Luckily, Treyarch published an extensive guide that explains exactly how the rank system operates in Black Ops 4 League Play.

When you enter the World League Hub, players will battle it out in the Pro Series playlist, which uses the Call of Duty World League ruleset. The playlist will feature League Play Events, which run over a period of three to four days. The duration of the event will be the amount of time you have to work on your League Play rank.

After playing your five skill evaluation matches, you’ll be placed into a Division with up to 50 players of similar skill. Players in each Division will compete for Ladder Points—these points will increase or decrease based on whether you win or lose. You’ll want to earn as many points as possible to get a high rank in your Division.

Players will earn a set amount of Ladder Points for each win, but you can get more points for additional victories “for every win in a streak up to a four-game win streak.” Daily Bonus points are also available each day, as well as an initial placement bonus when you are put in a Division.

But, in addition to your rank in League Play Events, you’ll also have something called your World League Rank. This will be a new “permanent, progressive rank system focused on a combination of both lifetime and recent performance.”

There are 20 ranks in this system, and you can improve your rank by earning Gems. These Gems are rank rewards that are earned based on how you finish a League Play Event. You’ll get two Gems for finishing top 25 in your Division, three Gems for top 10, and four Gems for a first-place finish.

It takes three Gems to move up between ranks one and 10, while you’ll need four Gems per rank between 11 and 20.

There are also performance tiers that can help display your placings in previous events. If you finish in the top 10 of an event, your rank will be permanently upgraded to Silver. You’ll get to Gold for one first-place finish, while Diamond is unlocked through coming in first in seven League Play Events.

Finally, there are Victory Flames, which are temporary cosmetic enhancements that spice up your rank emblem for consecutive first-place finishes in League Play Events.

There’s a lot of components to the Black Ops 4 League Play rank system—and Treyarch hopes that this will convince players to dedicate a lot of time to the new competitive playlist.
