When does Overwatch 2 season 8 begin?

Welcome to the Mauga waiting room.

It’s a well-known fact that Blizzard adds new heroes to Overwatch 2 on even-numbered seasons. So as soon as Overwatch 2 season seven began earlier in October, there were players less captivated by the current content and just wanted to know when season eight begins.

Overwatch 2 seasons typically last about two months, give or take a few days, so everyone already had a decent idea of when to expect season eight to kick off, but with the new battle pass officially underway, we now know exactly how long of a wait there will be before we can start playing the game’s new tank hero.

Overwatch 2 season eight will begin on Dec. 5, according to time on the game’s battle pass for season seven.

Blizzard hasn’t disclosed exactly when the new season will start, but more often than not, the new seasons have started at 1pm CT. Unless indicated otherwise, we anticipate season eight to start around then as well, give or take about 20-30 minutes.

Regardless which time Blizzard announces right before season eight starts, I always recommend that players take a patient approach to getting into the new seasonal content. I know you want to go in and play the new tank hero, but I’ve seen servers bug out at the beginning of the season enough to generally think it’s worth it to wait about an hour or so before logging in.

Another approach that you can take is to watch Twitch and wait to see when content creators are able to cleanly get into the new season so that you know you’re clear to get without having any issues. Think of streamers as our canaries in the coal mine.
