The top eight best Masters Pokémon TCG players are about to finish up at Worlds 2024, but there’s a huge shock in the decks that managed to get through to the final hurdle—with one card apparent in half of the best decks at the event.
Of the eight decks left, four of them are Regidrago ex, which had been the dominant deck of the entire tournament. Taking up four of the eight slots wasn’t a surprise, but it’s the decks missing out and one of the decks that made it in that has our interest piqued.
Of the decks remaining, there is no Gardevoir ex or Charizard ex decks to be found. Considering two of the top three decks going into the tournament, the absence of at least one deck has sent shockwaves throughout the community that expected one of them to make the final cut.
One of the last Charizard players of the day to fall just agonizingly short was EUIC 2024 champion Tord Reklev, who barely missed out by four points ending with a score of 9-1-2 (29 points). What makes the list even more baffling is the inclusion of Roaring Moon ex, a deck that no one saw coming and, at the time of writing, is sitting in the top four decks at the event through one stage of the finals.
Roaring Moon ex has even somehow managed to outlast Raging Bolt ex and Iron Thorns ex in the tournament. Roaring Moon was on no one’s radar, and now it has the potential to make history should it make it through to Championship Sunday.
With the final on Aug. 18 upon us, we are mere hours away from crowning the Pokémon World Champion for 2024 and restarting for the 2025 season.
