A major patch just hit Overwatch’s live server. This one’s a doozy—and it’s way more than just Doomfist.
It’s been a long time coming. Blizzard first gave word that Overwatch’s highlight system was getting a rework in late June. The same goes for a loot box overhaul and crosshair options. Here’s everything outside of hero balance getting upgraded in Patch 1.13.
Loot boxes
Players should begin noticing drastically reduced amounts of duplicates in their Overwatch loot boxes. That means that players will be receiving less Overwatch credit—duplicates give credit—so Blizzard is also adjusting that, too. Players should be earning just as many credits from loot boxes regardless of the amount of duplicates, Blizzard said in June.
Of course, there are only so many Overwatch items. Once most of them are collected, duplicates are inevitable.
Highlights
Overwatch highlights are still collected automatically by the system, but players can now capture their own highlights, too. Just bind a key to the capture button and push it to record. After the victory or defeat screen, the highlight will be watchable in the Highlights tab under Recently Captured. Depending on what system it was captured on, different export options will be available.
On console, Overwatch will default to whatever is set for the console, then the highlight is sent to the Xbox or PlayStation media library. On PC, the highlight will go to a directory in Windows, but players will have different quality options available. Even if a highlight was captured on a low-end system, Kaplan said, the video will still be able to be exported at 4K quality, if you choose to do so. Of course, the bigger the video file, the longer it’ll take to generate the file, Kaplan added.
The Overwatch development team will continue to iterate and upgrade the functionality over time.
Crosshair options
Players can choose from five different types of reticles and customize them to their liking. The feature is really robust, adding options for color, width, opacity, dot size, and more. Nearly everyone can create a crosshair that’s suitable for their style of play. The crosshair options are available under the “Controls” section of the “Options” menu. Once you’re there, the “Reticle” section can be expanded under “Advanced.”
Goodbye, duplicates! Welcome, Doomfist.
