Loot box drop rates for South Korean Overwatch players have been revealed by Blizzard.

As your prized loot boxes rumble and shake, you can expect to receive four items that will include at least one Rare item. On average, one in 5.5 loot boxes contains an Epic item, while one in 13.5 loot boxes contains a Legendary item. Roughly, that adds up to a 18.19 percent chance for an epic item, and a 7.4 percent chance of receiving a legendary item.

These numbers are exactly the same as the loot box drop rates for Overwatch players in China. This doesn't necessary confirm that drop rates are the same across all regions, though it is a good sign. Dot Esports has reached out to Blizzard for confirmation.

Loot boxes have been a point of contention between Overwatch players and Blizzard—especially during Overwatch's special events. Players have accused the developer of lowering drop rates for its limited release items—but that's not the case according Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan.

In China, the developer was legally mandated to release drop rates as an attempt to protect consumers. "Online game publishers shall publicly announce the random draw results by customers on notable places of official website or in game, and keep record for government inquiry," the regulations state.

The whole system is about to change, though. A new patch is in testing in Overwatch's public test region that overhauls the way loot boxes work. Players should notice a drastic reduction of duplicates in Overwatch loot boxes. More Overwatch credit will be handed out, too—it's an attempt to equalize the credit lost from reducing duplicates.

Blizzard did not state when the PTR patch will hit Overwatch's live server. But when it does, a bunch of important balance changes and Doomfist will also be released to the game.
